Who is Behind the film?
Nicolas Varillon
Director & Cinematographer
Nicolas Varillon is a Director of Photography and Director based in Montreal who focuses on positive social and environmental impact projects. He commits to create documentary films that can truly inspire and make a real difference.
His work goes beyond simply creating “beautiful images.” He aims to build a genuine emotional connection with an audience by creating value from the story.
He is not looking for a beautiful image for its own sake. He is looking for the image that reveals something true about the people we’re filming, leaving the audience with a slightly different way of seeing the world.
Silent Waters is his first short documentary he directed and produced.
Eric Bates
Filmmaker
Eric is a filmmaker and adventure photographer based in Eastman, QC. He loves crafting impactful and personal stories through beautiful images.
Before he got into filmmaking, he travelled the globe as a professional circus artist. Spending his life around passionate, athletic artists and getting to see so many beautiful places has shaped how he shoots and see the world.
Since getting into filmmaking he has loved transitioning to telling other people’s stories, while keeping that same focus on humanity and performance.
Victor Gomez Tamarit
Editor
Victor Tamarit is a video editor based in Montreal working across documentary, brand films, and other artistic projects.
His practice is rooted in a deep interest in human behaviour and the need for connection, with particular attention to questions of identity and belonging.
He approaches editing as a narrative and ethical practice, privileging emotional clarity, rhythm, and care in representation.
Christine and her family
The reason we are all here
I would personally like to dedicate this section to Christine and her family. For the trust she placed in us throughout this entire process, three years of filming her journey to recovery.
Thank you, Christine. I truly hope your story will help other first responders find their way through PTSD.
